This is my first ever attempt into blogging. I wanted to share my journey. I been in pursuit of fitness for most of my adult life. I’ve had some success along the way but never anything sustainable long term. My weight has fluctuated up and down and seems to always be headed upward.

Let‘s go over some history. I first started using kettlebells back in 2011-12. I went to a few classes in Jersey but soon got into power lifting and kettlebells took a back seat. The only two I owned, two 16 kg bells, literally sat in a corner collecting dust. I was pretty good at power lifting and I loved the challenge of always adding weight to the bar. In 2017 I was losing weight really well going from 342 down to 268 when I found out my wife was pregnant. Fast forward 9 months and I gained all the weight. So now I’m back in the 300’s again and one day I’m doing squats and my lifting belt, which is now too small, popped open at the bottom of a 425 lbs squat. I finished the lift but felt something in my back pop. I ended up herniating two discs and I was out of commission.

Lets fast forward to the spring of 2020. I’m now the heaviest I’ve ever been. My weight is now 355 lbs and Covid is running rampant in my state. All the gyms have shut down now and I keep hearing how obesity and Covid are not good friends. I have an amazing two year old son and a 20 year old son and I want to be around for them. I know I have to act quick and get my life together. I look to the corner of the room and there are my two old dusty kettlebells. I decided that these will have to do and I dove head first into the world of kettlebell training. I decided to ask for form advice on Reddit and that would help change my life.

I got so much overwhelmingly positive feedback and tips. I started training 6 days a week using Simple and Sinister and counting calories. Before I knew it I was down 25 lbs.

I was like a sponge soaking up all the info I could. I stared listening to Pat Flynn’s podcast and I decided to write an email to Coach Dan John and he gave me some life changing advice as well. He told me to get my self to a doctor, a dentist and an eye doctor. He told me to eat mostly protein and veggies and gave me some new training ideas based around the push, pull, hinge, squat and loaded carries. I’ll be forever grateful to Coach Dan John!! He’s totally helped me change my life.
